Information
The most crucial attraction of Wągrowiec is its geographical position. Four lakes – Durowskie, Kobyleckie, Rgielskie and Łęgowskie – create perfect conditions for leisure and enable practicing many water sports. Woodland in the north part of Wągrowiec and the complex of promenades situated along rivers and Durowskie Lake are favourite walking places loved by tourists and inhabitants of the city. The special attraction of the town is the crossing point of two rivers: Nielba and Wełna which is said to be unique hydrographic phenomenon (the only one in Europe and one of two in the world). Lakes of Wągrowiec are a real paradise for anglers. Durowskie and Rgielskie Lakes abound in European eels, roaches, breams, pikes, tenches, perches, rudds and bleaks. PLACES WORT SEEING The Gothic parish church with a belfry; the Baroque Cistercian monastery and the Late Baroque Cistercian church; Opatówka abbey — the former seat of the Cistercian abbots (now a regional museum); Pyramid of Łakiński — the pyramid-shaped tomb of a Polish captain who served in Napoleon's army; the oldest in Poland wooden church in Tarnów Pałucki (within 5 km from the city); the stone of St. Adalbert in Budziejewo village (within 12 km from Wągrowiec) – one of the biggest erratics in Europe; excavation works nearby Tarnów Pałucki – the evidence of settlements from before 2500 years B.C.E.; the Dębina reserve – the oak tree reserve with colonies of grey heron. In the summer season Wagrowiec offers accommodation for almost 600 people in hotels and bungalows and for 100 visitors at a camping site.
