Piła is a city beautifully situated on the River Gwda, on the borderland between West Pomerania and Great Poland. Nature values of Piła and its surrounding areas encourage to active leisure. Especially charming places are: pine woods, beautiful in every season of the year, that are spread out around the town, nearby lakes and rivers as well as numerous parks, squares, river boulevards and a scenic island in the River Gwda bend. Attractions of the city Piła and its surroundings are conducive to organize various trips to many interesting places. The beautiful pine woods offer rich fauna and flora resources. In addition to this, the number of attractions and the charm of the unpolluted scenery guarantee superb holiday. Woodlands are full of forest fruits and animals. Nature lovers are frequent visitors here.
There are several lakes in the vicinity of Piła, some of them are within administrative borders of the city. The biggest one is Płotki Lake. Clean water, accommodation base, well kept beaches and rentals of swimming equipment as well as nearby woodlands make the place well-known and popular not only among the inhabitants of the city, but also tourists. A curiosity is the oldest nature reserve in the Piła region named “Kuźnik” that is still within the borders of the city. It covers a picturesque landscape with woods and lakes, meadows and swamps. Therefore, it creates ideal conditions for the development of many plant species, which cannot be found in other reserves, and more than thirty species of rare birds.
Clean rivers and lakes are frequently visited places by anglers, yachtsmen and windsurfers. They can find here good conditions for an active recreation, calm and quiet atmosphere and a lot of fish as well. To those of you who like canoeing we offer canoe trips down swift rivers flowing though rich forests.
In order to take a rest, you can use indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, fitness clubs, and those of you wishing to experience a little bit stronger sensations will have an opportunity to try learning parachuting or admire the landscape from the bird’s eye view, using a hang-glider or glider. Piła has a diverse accommodation and gastronomy base, in addition to having well equipped conference rooms for business tourism.
Piła – the biggest city in the region is the centre of cultural life. Numerous cultural and sports events are organised here. In the city, history of which goes back to the 15th century, there are many places worth visiting. The places are as follows: neo-Gothic Church of St. Stanislaus Kostka from the end of the 19th century, neo-Baroque Church of the Holy Family on the western shore of the River Gwda, and a very interesting, for architectural reasons, Church of St. Anthony from Padua. A walk along the sparse streets with an old buildings is also worth recommending so as to see the tenement houses from the turn of the 19th and 20th century and presentable buildings of the former governmental district near Staszic Square. What is more, it is obligatory to visit the house of Stanisław Staszic, a museum now.
