Działdowo County is located in the Masurian Lakeland, in the south-western part of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, nestled between two rivers: Wel and Wkra. In Działdowo there is many objects worth seeing like, for example, the town hall, traditional tenement houses dating from the turn of the 18th and 19th century and the post Teutonic castle that was erected in 1344-1391 as one of the southern watchtowers of the Monastic State of the Teutonic Knights. The characteristic element of Masurian architecture are local churches. Some churches are worthy of special notice: Gothic

temples of stone and brick dating from the 15th century in Narzym and Płośnica, the church of St. Adalbert in Lidzbark, the church in Uzdów from the 14th century and the wooden church in Rumian with a beautiful Baroque altar dating back to the 18th century. Apart from this, a rich history of this region is still reminded by roadside shrines, numerous monuments as well as small palaces and manors that are gradually coming back to their former glory, local museums that gather cultural and nature values of the county: the Ethnographic Museum and the Nature Museum in Jeleń and the Warmian-Masurian Museum of Firefighting in Lidzbark. The region has been included in “Zielone Płuca Polski” area [“the Green Lungs of Poland” ] which confirms high ecological and touristic values of the county. Nature shows all its beauty here while clean water and clear air encourage to spend here every free moment. The area of the Welsk and Górznień- Lidzbark Landscape Parks and a large number of nature reserves make it possible to get familiar with many rare species of plants and animals. Likewise, forests smelling of resin put everybody in a state of fantastic mental and physical relaxation. In addition, the forests are an ideal place for mushroom picking enthusiasts as well as for gourmets of blueberries, wild strawberries and nuts.
