Ośno Lubuskie – picturesquely located among woods and lakes of Puszcza Rzepińska -  is one of the oldest towns in the north-west part of the Lubuskie Voivodeship. Ośno is situated within 146 km from Berlin and 27 km from the border crossing point with Germany.

TOURISM
Ośno is sometimes called " a tourist pearl of the Lubuskie Province". Not without cause. The spirit of history is felt in many corners of the town. Every building, alley or street is a witness of the town’s rich history that was built by a few generations of inhabitants of Slavic, Polish and German origin. Attractions of the Lubuskie Voivodeship are great forests, numerous lakes and clean environment. Tourism is concentrated mainly in the eastern part of the voivodeship, among lakes surrounded by forests. The most popular are: Łagowskie, Lubiąż, Niesłysz, Ciecz (Trześniowskie), Glębokie, Sławskie and Osiek.

The main summer resorts with places to swim, fishing and other water sports attractions are: Łagów, Lubniewice, Lubrza, Sława, Ośno, Lubuskie, Niesulice, Pszczew.
 
Tourism is also being developed on lakes connected with the Obra River on the border with Wielkopolska region. The attractive waterways of the voivodeship are: a lubuski trail (from Sława through the Obra River, Międzyrzecz then through the Warta River to Sanok and Gorzów Wielkopolski), the Pliszka River trail (from Łagów) and the Drawa River trail. Woodlands are full of wild animals and are a perfect place for hunters. There are horse riding centres in Lubniewice and Krasny Dłusk so everybody who loves horses is invited. Clean lakes, the diversified features of the landscape and beautiful forests encourage to swimming, hiking, cycling, mushroom picking and fishing.

NATURE
Ośno Lubuskie commune is located among moraine hills of the Lubuska Upland on the Łęcza River. The features of the commune’s landscape are quite diversified. The area around Ośno is a typical example of the landscape formed as a result of glacier effect. There are 11 lakes (finger lakes and cave-in ones) nearby the town, as well as picturesque hills and gorges. Another characteristic of Ośno surroundings is a large forest area (nearly 50% of the total commune territory). Thanks to that, there are perfect conditions for rest.

HISTORY
Ośno Lubuskie has an eventful history. There was a defensive castle in the early Piast period. The record from 1252 says about receiving the municipal rights. Ośno was owned by the bishops from the Lubuskie region and then since the year 1258 the Margravate of Brandenburg was its owners. In the Middle Ages, Ośno became the main centre of the torzymska land  and since 1447, when the domestic starosty had been established here, the capital of this land. The town has burnt a few times. What is more, it has experienced wars and plagues. Ośno was famous for its local beer, floriculture (lilies of the valley plantations, hence the German name Maiblumenstadt) as well as asparagus and currant cultivation. In 1565,  there were 857 breweries and 157 loom workshops in the 18th century. The right to organize fairs twice a year was conferred on the town in the year 1584. In 1945, Ośno was partly destroyed and joined Poland

MONUMENTS
Ośno Lubuskie belongs to the towns rich in monuments and is one of those which have kept medieval defensive walls. The magnificent Church of St. Jacob from 1298 with a high and massive tower decorated with blendes is the oldest building in Ośno Lubuskie. 
Inside, there is the late Renaissance polychromed altar from 1627, the pulpit from 1619 and the stony baptismal font from 1667. The neo-Gothic town hall from 1843 stands in a place of the older Gothic town hall from 1544. Churches from the Middle Ages in Gronów, Połęcko, Sienno and Świniary are the oldest buildings in the commune area as well as the church in Radachów that represents an architectural pattern characteristic for Protestant chapels of the 17th century.

FUTURE
Thanks to the local government authorities` involvement and inhabitants’ initiatives, another barriers of social and economic growth are being overcome. Year in, year out the necessary infrastructure and social and cultural base increases. In addition to this, educational base is being modernized, the town and its surroundings are becoming more beautiful, there is more and more workplaces. These efforts have been noticed. Numerous awards and honourable mentions are an evidence of caring about the city and its development. Recently, an increase of foreign investment on the territory of Ośno commune has been noticed. In order to improve investment conditions the Municipal Industrial Area has been created. Ośno Lubuskie has currently the population of 4 thousand people. There are also immigrants who settle down in our city. Suburbs are full of detached houses. Demand for building lots is much higher than supply.
