The history of Międzyrzecz dates back to the beginning of the Polish country. Throughout many ages, Międzyrzecz guarded the west borders of the Republic of Poland as it was the farthest protruded royal city in the west. A medieval castle erected on the dikes of an old Piasts’ stronghold in the period od Kazimierz the Great’ s reign reminds about the rich and glorious history of our city. The main trump of the ancient Międzyrzecz and of the picturesque surroundings are magnificent woods rich in warrantable animals, mushrooms and berries, numerous lakes among whose there is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lubuskie lakeland – The Deep Lake. The greatest attraction of Międzyrzecz is the Międzyrzecki Strengthened Region. Lots of adventures wait for the canoe fans on one of the most picturesque and at the same time unknown canoe trail along the Obra river. There are also horse – riding centers here as well as many other attractions which speak in favor of coming to Międzyrzecz.

Rest center „Głębokie”
is picturesquely located by the Deep Lake, 5 km away from Międzyrzecz to the north near the country road nr 3 (E-65). The “Głębokie” rest center has a camping ground, a tent ground for 200 tents, a water equipment lending point (canoes, water bicycles, windsurfing), a tennis court, gutter water chute of 50 m, a soccer pitch, volleyball pitch, basketball pitch and mini soccer pitch. In the center there functions a yacht club and a frogman club which organize trainings. In the center there is also a network of various gastronomic points and groceries. In the harbor you can borrow fishing boats. Both the center and The Deep Lake are within the silence zone and you cannot borrow either motorboats or water scooters. Międzyrzecki Strengthened Region – www.bunkry.pl
MSR is one of the most precious monuments of fortified art in the 20th century. It is an amazing defensive line, comparable only with the Maginott’s Line in France, built by Germans in the years 1934 – 1938 between the Warta river and the Odra river as the safeguard of the east border of Germany against the attack of the Polish army. There are here altogether over 100 militant and hydrotechnical objects. The most interesting and popular element of MSR is the amazing system of underground subways connecting 21 militant objects over 30 km long. The Underground Tourist Trail and museum are located in the town of Pniewo near Kaławy. There has been prepared for tourists a special underground tourist trail which leads along underground corridors situated at the depth reaching 40 m.

• A sport hall covering 1000 m² with pitches for all hall games and with an audience for 600 people and with a sanitary – social base adapted for the handicapped.
• A biological regeneration salon with a gym. Near the gym there is a complete sanitary – social base with the dry sauna, solarium and a massage cabinet.
• A hotel open 24 h a day, 21 places in 2 – and 3 – persons rooms with a complete sanitary knot, a restaurant, a conference hall for 40 people and a banquet hall for 70 people.
• A stadium – a sport – recreation complex in which there are: 2 soccer pitches, 2 tennis courts, a universal pitch and a runway L.A. with 6 lanes as well as a newly – built multifunctional pavilion with a cloakroom, sinks, a day-room and a coach room for teaching theoretical classes.

• A castle – from the 14th and 16th century. It was built on the framework of an old, wooden – terrestrial, fortified city. It was the seat of castellans and Międzyrzecki foremen; there were quartered here military garrisons appointed to the defending of the Polish west border. In the middle of the16th century it was reconstructed and adjusted to a new defensive technique connected with the using of cannons (little artillery turrets). At the time of the Swedish wars it was destroyed and never rebuilt.
• A foremen’s building – from the beginning of the 18th century. Primarily it was a solitary building, located on a small hill, covered with a high ceramic roof; after a reconstruction in the beginning of the 19th century it gained a classical form. Today it is a museum.
• A park – is the oldest garden foundation which comes from the first half of the 18th century. There was preserved the area’s carving in the shape of defensive terrestrial dikes and a small town from the 10th and 11th century. Water mirrors which encircle all rivers, moats and canals form a diversified landscape composition.
