Tucholskie woods – a uniqually beautiful land, the kingdom of green woods and forests, charming with its might and the majesty of blue lakes and lively rivers. Tucholskie woods cover the territory of over 250 000 ha. This is a land of a very rich network of superficial waters – rivers, streams and numerous lakes. The queen of the rivers is Brda – a very popular river with the organizers of canoe flows. This trail is considered one of the most beautiful lowland canoe trails. During its whole coarse the river beautifully winds, creating numerous picturesque semicircles. Its banks are often covered with woods and are high, at times even precipitous. This variety of features guarantees a nice and active relaxation for all canoeers, starting from the advanced and demanding, valuing strong emotions and water obstacles, and ending with those who find pleasure in calm, recreational canoeing.
Woods are the chief wealth of this land, and they make it attractive. Among lofty pines there live many rare animals. Naturalists can admire moose, boars, minks and beavers. With a bit of luck you can look out the muddy tortoise. Birds fans look out black storks, blackcocks, cormorants. In the woods there also lives the eagle owl, the white eagle and the kingfisher. In the waters there swims a variety of fish types: pikes, lines, eels, breams, roaches, whitefish and many others. Among the pine forests and small mediterranean dunes there grow numerous kinds of the moss and the lichen. Tucholskie woods are at the same time an ideal place for mushrooming and long walks. Numerous paths encourage walks and bicycle rides among picturesque landscapes of the lakeland. Tuchola – the capital city of Tucholskie woods, which has over 14 000 inhabitants, is one of the oldest cities in Pomorze region. It is located in the north west part of the Kujawsko – pomorskie province. Around the year 980, most probably at the command of Mieszko I, in the territory of Tuchola there was built a dense habitation. The first written hint comes from the year 1287, when the archbishop of Gniezno Jacob Pig consecrated the local church. The trestles erected here a brick castle – the seat of the command and in the year 1346 The Great Champion Henryk Dusemer granted Tuchola city rights. The city of Tuchola boasts over seven ages of continual tradition as a local administration center. 50 days of Tucholskie woods are one of the biggest events organized in the Pomorze region. This is the region’s holiday, from ages strictly connected with Tucholskie woods – one of the greatest forest complexes in Poland. The purpose of The Days of Tucholskie Woods is the showing of the magnificent culture of the district as well as its rich forms of tradition, cultivated through various crafts connected with the forest and its surrounding. The days of Tucholskie Woods – with its renown and character – by far exceed the country’s borders drawing numerous guests from Poland and from around the world to such events as:
The main motto of The Days of Tucholskie Woods reads: „Come! The wood will welcome you and the people will entertain you!”. The DTW runs always under the honorary patronage of outstanding individuals and institutions. The program of the DTW has been changed but the purpose remains the same i.e. showing the goods and the beauty of the city as well as of the region, activating the society and securing entertainment and relaxation to the tourists and to the natives. Together, during the DTW there are organized about 50 events. The scenery for many of them is made up of the old-town market, the sport area of the Sport and Recreation Center in Tuchola as well as of other towns in the territory of the Tuchola commune. A part of them successfully takes place in forest areas, i.e. in the hearts of the woods: canoe flows, contests, fighting dogs’ exhibitions and so on. Separate events, depending on its character, draw hundreds and even a few thousand of onlookers, for example the concert of a famous star which closes each day of the DTW edition. In the year 2009 there will take place the jubilee 50th edition of The Days of Tucholskie Woods. The term of their implementation is 4th to 19th of July. We are looking forward therefore to the time of fun and pride in our culturally rich region. Details on www.tuchola.pl |
